The Lotus Pond (2024-25)
4 min Video Loop, Projection on Khadi textile,
Print on cloth
The Lotus Pond is a metaphorical piece concerning the political scenario in India and the rising wave of right-wing nationalism in the country. The work uses the symbol of the lotus (the National Flower of India) as a representation of the country, as well as the right-wing Indian nationalist party named the Bharatiya Janata Party (the B.J.P), which uses the lotus as its election symbol. The artist infuses the ideals of a free and secular India by using the historical textile of Khadi in the work and directs their efforts into returning India and the symbol of the lotus to their once virgin state.
