About
Nabarun Gogoi is an artist from India, based in Lausanne, Switzerland, where he will be graduating with a Master in Photography from École cantonale d’art de Lausanne (ECAL) in June, 2025. Educated in Computer Science during his undergraduate education and followed by a career as a Software Developer and a Game Developer, he uses his acquired technological competencies to create media art pieces that merge the boundaries of classical photography with newer dimensions of image-making, such as computer-generated imagery (C.G.I) and generative artificial intelligence (Gen A.I).
Born and educated in India, his work sources social issues of contemporary modern society, such as capitalism, loneliness, and dwindling political freedom, with the motive of creating narratives that question the viewer and their gaze. As an immigrant from a developing nation living in a developed one, his views and work are greatly defined by his personal experiences of isolation, varying levels of urbanism in different cultures, and the ever-increasing reliance on digital media to connect with others. On the other hand, the distance from his home country provides him the necessary detachment and liberty to form his own independent opinions regarding
the political trends being observed in India.
He has exhibited his work at Matazz Group Exhibition Lausanne (November, 2024), ‘CO-EXISTENCE’ Group Exhibition (Paris) directed by Paris based art studio Area of Work (November, 2024) and the ‘We Do The Rest’ group exhibition at ECAL (September, 2024) and Arles (July, 2024), where the exhibition at ECAL was a part of the Swiss Photo Month 2024.
